Norwegian cruise - Amsterdam

Image
Monday morning we headed to Amsterdam Intl Airport by train, with the intention to spend the night at an airport hotel. That way, we'd have an easier start to our long journey home the next day.

Norwegian cruise - Winterswijk

Image
We spent the day visiting my parents of course and revisiting my childhood memories. It was wonderful to be back and see things through Murray's eyes - I had forgotten what a lovely part of The Netherlands I used to live in.

Norwegian cruise - to Winterswijk

We woke up early to watch our approach to Rotterdam. It was a gray day, but fortunately it wasn't raining.

Norwegian cruise - Heading south

Image
Our last full day at sea... A lovely sunny day with a sea as smooth as a mirror. It was hard to notice we were on board of a ship at all, we were not even rocking a little bit. Speak about sailing on glass!

Norwegian cruise - Bergen

Image
Bergen today! This time we were fully prepared for rain, because in Bergen it rains 200 days a year. As the Captain put it, it's called the Rain Capital of Europe.

Norwegian cruise - Geiranger

Image
Again we woke up early to watch the view pass by our window on our way to the Geiranger Fjord. That is the joy of cruising - while you sit idly and do nothing, all the beauty comes to you!

Norwegian cruise - Alesund

Image
We woke up to the most gorgeous scenery I have seen in my entire life. The fjords gliding by were spectacular! Having fallen asleep so early the previous day, we were wide awake before 6am but it was worth it... Every minute the scenery was getting more breathtaking.

Norwegian cruise - Eidfjord, Hardangerfjord

Image
Having fallen asleep so early, we were wide awake at sunrise, around 5am. What a sight to wake up to though! The Fjords were gliding by our window peacefully and majestically. Too bad the sun had decided to hide behind a thick layer of clouds that day.

Norwegian cruise - The North Sea

Image
Up to then the sea had been calm, but in the night the wind picked up and the ship started creaking, rattling and rocking quite a bit. Murray and I still had our sea legs from our last cruise, so it did not bother us.

Norwegian cruise - On our way to Norway

Image
After breakfast the shuttle bus took us to the cruise terminal, a journey which took exactly three minutes. We could have walked, if we hadn't had these big suitcases!

Norwegian cruise - Mom and Dad arrive

Image
Today my parents arrived in Rotterdam.
It was so nice to meet up with them again, especially for Murray who had not seen them in person since they visited Canada in 2009.

Norwegian cruise - The SS Rotterdam

Image
We decided to take it very easy on Thursday to adjust to the new time zone, so we rested most of the morning. In the afternoon, we booked the full two hours audio tour of the entire ship.

Norwegian cruise - Arriving in Rotterdam

Image
We arrived safe and sound at Schiphol, where our Tinker taxi was waiting for us right on time. It was a frightful drive from the Amsterdam airport to Rotterdam - all we could see was a huge mass of cars, all driving on top of each other!

Norwegian cruise - Leaving home

Image
On this gorgeous May the 5th (which coincides with our 10th engagement anniversary btw) we found ourselves high in the sky, first from Cranbrook to Vancouver and then on a KLM flight from Vancouver to Amsterdam.

Another cruise!

Remember our cruise to Alaska? So did we... In fact we could not stop thinking about it.
However, we also figured that we really should visit my parents in The Netherlands - the last time Murray saw them was in 2009 when they visited Canada!
